3DTin Review

3dtin screen

3DTin is a browser-based 3D modeling editor that allows you to create 3D models on the web, without the need to download additional software. Since it isn’t a heavyweight software, it has its limitations but it is also one of the easiest and fastest ways to create 3D models, even if you’ve never used this kind of software before. The company boasts more than 100,000 users and was one of the first 3D modeling apps of its kind, launching in early 2010.

The browser capability is the application’s defining feature. While others require you to download or install complex software that can take a lot of time to learn, 3DTin allows you to start creating models in seconds. 3DTin is compatible with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and most other modern web browsers.

The ease of use is the application’s best feature. 3DTin uses “voxels”, technically known as Volumetric Picture Elements. You combine these voxels to build your model, just like putting together Lego bricks. Once you’ve put your voxels together, you can also rotate, flip, and smooth your model. You’re not confined to rectangular bricks, either. You can add cylinders, spheres, cones, text, and even make your own shape. You can also import 2D images and convert them to 3D models but it doesn’t work well with complex images.

Once you’re done, you can easily export your model for printing or to a more complex editor.

The application was recently acquired by Lagoa, a 3D rendering company that allows you to render images on almost any computer using just your browser and the cloud when the process used to require some serious hardware. You can export your 3DTin images easily into Lagoa which allows you to choose different materials for printing and change the colors. Lagoa also allows you to collaborate on a model with other users.
